Creating Results

Creating results is a full time occupation. As business owners and team leaders the responsibility for training of new associates and distributors rest squarely on our shoulders.
Proper training is the key to success…so is honesty. Many times new associates and distributors are not taught the basic fundamentals necessary to become Network Marketing victors instead of casualties.
For those of us who have effectively built thriving sales organizations, we know what kind of commitment and energy it took to create. Producing results on an ongoing basis isn’t an accident. It is however, a major life-changing event.
When I say life changing I mean in every way. A change must occur in the way we communicate, focus, lead, think and act. Assisting new marketers to be willing and grateful to embrace change should be priority number one. Old habits must be replaced with new, more effective ones. Gone are the days of clock watching and waiting for the chimes to ring quitting time at five p.m.
I meet so many inexperienced marketers who think that they can continue with their old employee mentality and habits now that they’re in the free enterprise arena. Halfhearted effort is put in along with halfhearted goals and visions. It’s frightening to witness the path of self-destruction these people are embarking on through no fault of their own. No one has taught them to do anything different and unless they had entrepreneur parents or friends growing up, they don’t even realize the difference from employee versus a self-employed mindset.
The responsibility for education falls into the hands of company owners and business leaders. I have noticed a disheartening trend in the network marketing industry to “just get em in” and explain later. This kind of short-term thinking is certainly not beneficial to our new marketer or to the company intending to stay in business beyond a few years.
Why not be honest with people up front about the realities of being a successful entrepreneur? I realize that some may argue this point and say that fewer people would enroll if they understood the discipline and potential learning curve they’re facing. Granted, fewer may enroll but I also think we’d see a substantial decrease in casualties along the way. After all, the people who make the commitment to enroll and get going would be educated and more prepared going into the situation. I’d prefer to see people educated and primed versus people who are misinformed or uninformed about their new endeavor.
It’s challenging for me to believe and you may be surprised as well, there are large companies in our industry still training their distributors to find new recruits by running ad’s in the “help wanted” section of national and local newspapers. Hello! Am I the only one who finds this practice to be misleading and a threat to the entire industry? Last week I was told of a company training their distributors to tell the “prospect” that there are “positions” open in customer service, sales and management. Of course, the reality is that they were holding “opportunity meetings” with the intent to sell product and recruit new distributors.
What’s wrong with being honest and telling potential distributors/customers the truth about our industry? Network marketing isn’t something to be ashamed of as far as I’m concerned. Why do people still tippy toe around our legitimate opportunity in this business?
From what I see, the majority of companies and publications such as this one, go out of their way to offer a professional arena for like-minded individuals to grow and prosper. The days of cloak and mirror recruiting tactics should be put to rest. This is a legitimate industry for people to achieve their financial and personal goals, so what is there to hide?
Perhaps there are still companies and individuals out there who would prefer to sugar coat the realities of becoming personally and financially free. There wouldn’t be a perceived need to lure people in if everybody made a collective effort to educate before, during and after enrollment takes place.
My experience is that people who are told up front what is going on are more likely to stay long term as apposed to being swept in with fancy tactics. I assure you, they will figure it out and then they will be the casualties of our industry I mentioned earlier. You know, the ones who go around telling everybody they got “burned” by network marketing.
Please forgive me if I seem to be beating on a dead horse over here…education works! Educate new people on what to say and what not to say in order to keep the company and themselves from getting into trouble later on down the road. Let new distributors know up front that their new enterprise will blossom and bloom if they practice the old golden rules of honesty, hard work and a willingness to grow personally.
Educating people through out the entire multi-level, direct sales and network marketing industry will assist us all in prospering and growing for many years to come.
