Hobbies
Are you running out of ideas to keep your kids busy? Are you looking for a new project for your children? Maybe it is time to start scrapbooking with your kids! Creating a scrapbook is a fun and wonderful way of showcasing photos and stories. Whether you already scrapbook or have never done it before, it is a rewarding past time that can be shared with your kids.
What is a scrapbook? A scrapbook is a collection of photos placed in a book with stickers, punches, memorabilia and, most importantly, stories. It has become America?s fastest growing hobby! It is not only popular among adults, but children as well. There are some simple steps to help you create a scrapbook with your kids:
Select an Album - The first place to begin is to select an album to use. There are several scrapbook stores, hobby stores, and department stores such as Wal-Mart that have albums to purchase. There are all different sizes. The two most popular sizes are 81/2 x 11 and 12 x12. A 5 x 7 album is a popular size with children. This is a great one for them because it is small and allows them to get the book completed faster. Organize Photos - Select some photos to give to your children. It is always a good idea to get duplicates or even triplicates of your photos. Look through your photos and set some aside for your kids to scrapbook.
Crop the Photos - Depending on the age of your child, they can use tools to help crop photos. There are circle cutters, templates and scissors to help give the photo shape or to crop the photo. If the children are too young for these tools, you can crop the photos for them.
Add Embellishments - Once you have selected photos, it is time to decide what to use to decorate the pages. Stickers, die-cuts, punches, memorabilia, and drawings are all excellent embellishments. Show the children how to select embellishments to compliment the picture. For example, if you give them a picture at Christmastime, they might want to add Christmas themed stickers.
Add Journaling. A great way to personalize the album is with journaling, drawings or artwork done by your children. Make sure the work is dated so that you can see how their artwork develops, as they get older. If they are learning to write or already know how, encourage them to journal. They can write the names of the people in the photo, tell the story about the event and create a title for their page.
Not only will your children be proud of the album, but they will also enjoy working with you on such a memorable project. It may be something they would like to bring in for show and tell. If they really enjoy it, it will make a great gift for a grandparent or special person in their life. So don?t procrastinate. Start scrapbooking with your kids today!
