Blessings. Have you ever thought about the blessings in your life and how or why you receive them? It’s not by accident you know. God sends them to us. I have always had a hard time with blessings. I loved receiving them but felt guilty about having them. Moreover, I would often be afraid to ask God for blessings in my life. I thought, if I ask God for something, it should be to help another person in need, or for better health, something for a loved one, a right to a wrong injustice, etc. But a blessing? To me, asking God to bless me was selfish, conceited, and I was unworthy to even approach Him with the idea. But I have been learning that I was wrong. You know what? God LOVES to bless us! He loves to see us rejoice over life’s pleasures and win victories here on earth. You see, God is a God of LOVE. Just as you are a parent and want to see your child happy and have good things come their way – so does the Lord with us. He wants us to be happy – not sad. There is a key element in God blessing us though. That’s our heart. We all have motives inside of us. God knows them. If your motives are wrong – He will not delight in blessing you. That doesn’t mean that good things won’t happen to you ever. That just means they very possibly won’t be coming from God. I just wanted to share with you this knowledge in case you, like me, misunderstood that you were deserving of life’s blessings and victories. If you work really hard for something and it pays off – feel free to delight in that reward – that feeling that comes with it. It’s OKAY! In fact, it’s more than okay to enjoy what you have. I think God would much rather us enjoy what we are given – than squander that delight away. Don’t you?
