Back to School Traditions - set the foundation for a great year!

Family traditions teach us who we are and how we are connected to one another. The best traditions are simple and yet so powerful. They weave a common string within our families, and create a sense of belonging that is essential for a strong family.

Throughout the year, we have many opportunities to start or maintain our traditions and Back to School is a perfect time!

The Family Book Worm is the kind of bug you want in your house! This is something you can do with children of any age. Create the head with a round piece of construction paper, add two antennae and let your children draw on the face. Cut out bright colored paper circles that will represent each new book your children read. Use the circles as bookmarks, and as they finish a book (whether you read it to them or they read it themselves), write their name and the book s title on the circle, building the body of your book worm. Watch as your book worm grows all around the room throughout the year. Your children will be proud so of their accomplishments. You may even want to save the circles and store them away with each child s schoolwork. Get your kids excited about school by constructing this worm on the weekend before school starts. Be sure to take a photo of your children holding the Book Worm at the end of the school year.

Throw a Bus Stop BUFFET!!! Bring some doughnuts, bagels, hot chocolate, juice and milk for the young students and their parents to enjoy as they wait for the bus. This is the perfect way for your children to get to know their classmates, and a great opportunity for you to meet their parents. This photo moment can be collaged into your Back to School book.

Whether your little one is just starting school or they are well into their student career, it s never too late to start some or all of these wonderful traditions. They will be fondly remembered and passed down to your future generations.
